Preconference C: Building Capacity for IPECP Research: Empowering Future Scholars with Mixed-method Methodologies
- Collaborative Leadership and Shared Responsibility in Interprofessional Teams
InterprofessionalResearch.Global (IPR.Global) is the Global Research Network in Interprofessional Education and Collaborative Practice (IPECP), focused on fostering evidence-informed knowledge, policy creation, and mobilization to improve care, learning, health, and wellness across systems and society. This workshop, hosted by IPR.Global, aims to promote knowledge exchange and mobilization in IPECP research. It brings together experts and scholars to build, develop, and disseminate best practice guidelines in IPECP research while empowering both current and future generations of IPECP theorists, researchers, educators, and service providers.
Building on previous successful IPR.Global workshops, this session addresses global educational needs related to the role of theory in knowledge generation for IPECP research, as identified in the recent Global IPE Situational Analysis Survey (IPR.Global, 2022). The workshop highlights the critical need for rigorous evaluation in IPECP initiatives, which is essential for advancing the field. While improvements in evaluative research have been made, there remains a need for research programs demonstrating IPECP’s impact on the Quintuple Aim: better health, care, value, work experience, and health equity.
Detailed description of the workshop : The session will begin with an overview of the key concepts in mixed-method research and the importance of best practices in IPECP evaluation. Short presentations will introduce the theoretical and practical applications of mixed-methods in assessing IPECP outcomes. Participants will then engage in small working groups to discuss real-life case studies and collaborate on developing strategies for implementing mixed-method research designs in IPECP projects. These group discussions will offer valuable opportunities for participants to explore challenges, refine research questions, and share insights on improving evaluation processes.
The session will conclude with group presentations, where participants will share their findings and approaches, followed by a Q&A and wrap-up discussion. This format encourages knowledge exchange and peer learning, ensuring a high level of interactivity and engagement throughout the workshop.
Learning Objectives
- Identify key concepts and best practices in mixed-method research for IPECP research and evaluation.
- Develop strategies for implementing mixed-method research designs in IPECP initiatives.
- Evaluate IPECP outcomes and demonstrate their impact on the Quintuple Aim.
