Dr. Amanda (Mandy) Kirkpatrick, PhD, RN, FAAN, FNAP is the Associate Dean for Research and Innovation and an Endowed Professor of Nursing at Creighton University College of Nursing. She holds a PhD in Nursing from Villanova University, an MSN in Nursing Education from Clarkson College, and a BSN from Creighton University. Dr. Kirkpatrick's recent projects include interprofessional simulations and initiatives aimed at improving advance care planning within diverse communities. Dr. Kirkpatrick is honored as both a Fellow of both the American Academy of Nursing and the National Academies of Practice, and has been recognized with the INACSL Academic Excellence Award.

This pilot study explored the use of an AI chatbot as an alternative to standardized patients in an interprofessional palliative care simulation. Results revealed significant improvements in student self-efficacy, with insights on the benefits, limitations, and opportunities for optimizing chatbot-based learning as a tiered approach to enhance clinical communication skills.
