While an undergraduate student at Creighton University, Kaylee Van Handel is a data science major with minors in computer science, information technology, and digital humanities. During her time at Creighton, she has been engaged in course work and several research projects. These research projects involve building robust deep learning models for applications in computer vision and natural language processing.

This pilot study explored the use of an AI chatbot as an alternative to standardized patients in an interprofessional palliative care simulation. Results revealed significant improvements in student self-efficacy, with insights on the benefits, limitations, and opportunities for optimizing chatbot-based learning as a tiered approach to enhance clinical communication skills.
