Transforming Interprofessional Education: Strategies for Systematic and Longitudinal IPE Assessment and Evaluation

- CDT
Room: Mercer
  • Innovative Approaches to Interprofessional Pedagogy and Education Science
As Interprofessional Education (IPE) continues to evolve, systematic assessment and evaluation of IPE curricula and programs are essential for meeting accreditation standards and driving quality improvement. Longitudinal assessment not only ensures compliance but also provides empirical evidence that informs evidence-based practices, optimizes educational strategies, and improves patient and caregiver outcomes. This workshop offers a comprehensive exploration of strategies to navigate longitudinal assessment and evaluation of IPE initiatives, guiding participants through a roadmap that illustrates the impact of IPE on learners, educators, and the broader community.

Aligned with the theme "Innovative Approaches to Interprofessional Pedagogy and Education Science," this workshop focuses on advancing the comprehensive assessment and evaluation of IPE initiatives, emphasizing program evaluation and learner outcomes data. Participants will explore theory-driven methods to assess and enhance the effectiveness of IPE programs, contributing to the growth of interprofessional education and collaborative practice.Session outline with active learning strategies: Throughout the workshop, attendees will engage in key steps of the evaluation process, including conducting environmental scans and developing robust assessment frameworks. Illustrative examples from various institutions, interactive discussions, and practical exercises will provide valuable insights into designing longitudinal IPE curricula, assessing learner competencies, and ensuring sustainable assessment practices.

Central to the workshop will be thought-provoking questions aimed at identifying transformative ways to assess IPE's impact on learners' collaborative abilities, readiness for practice, and achievement of the Quintuple Aim. Additionally, strategies for engaging patients and community volunteers in experiential IPE programs will be explored. The workshop will also address how IPE affects educators’ teaching experiences, deepening understanding of its broader implications for educational practice.

By equipping participants with actionable strategies and fostering dialogue on assessment methodologies, this workshop will empower institutions to optimize their IPE programs and advance the collective goal of enhancing IPE in healthcare.

Learning Objectives

  • Develop actionable strategies to design and implement systematic, longitudinal assessment and evaluation for IPE programs.
  • Explore methods to assess the impact of IPE on learners' readiness for collaborative practice.
  • Identify ways to improve the impact of IPE programs on students, educators, and patients/community.
