Amanda Brown is the Director of Interprofessional Education (IPE) at Chapman University School of Pharmacy. Amanda completed her undergraduate education, Bachelor of Science in Nursing, at Seattle University. She completed her Master of Science in Nursing Education at NYU. She has earned clinical certifications in various specialties. Prior to Chapman University, she worked as a registered nurse in the Intensive Care Unit and held positions in nursing education, quality, and leadership. In her current role, she spearheads overall IPE programming and is the Chair of the IPE Committee. Amanda’s interest in IPE and collaboration developed while serving as an Assistant Nurse Manager at a teaching hospital. She facilitated a unique partnership between physicians and nurses, MD/RN Collaborative, and spearheaded interprofessional initiatives to improve quality measures, such as decreasing unassisted falls and reducing central line associated bloodstream infections.

Presenting at CAB 2025:

This abstract describes a simulation that provided student pharmacists with a practice-based perspective to improve communication skills through interaction with physicians. It demonstrated a statistically significant increase in communication and teams and teamwork competencies. This experience shares an engaging opportunity to teach collaborative communication skills when navigating challenging conversations.
