Dr. Erika Boesen is an Associate Professor in the Department of Cellular & Integrative Physiology at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC). She received her Ph.D. in Physiology from Monash University, Australia, in 2005, before undertaking post-doctoral research at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, GA. She joined the Department of Cellular & Integrative Physiology at UNMC to start her independent lab as an Assistant Professor in 2012, was promoted to Associate Professor in 2018, and tenured in 2021. In addition to researching mechanisms of kidney damage, Dr. Boesen contributes to the education of medical, allied health, and graduate students. She serves as a Co-Director of the Gastrointestinal block of the medical curriculum and as Director of the Integrative Physiology and Molecular Medicine (IPMM) Doctoral Program.

This interprofessional dysphagia education event, now in its second year, demonstrates the value of structured, theory-driven collaboration between medical and speech-language pathology students. Grounded in the IPEC competencies, the program provides a model for designing and evaluating effective interprofessional educational experiences that foster balanced engagement and skill-building.
