Erin is a patient engagement consultant and advocate who served on the Board of Directors and chaired the Patient and Family Committee for the Global Tracheostomy Collaborative for over 10 years. She also co-founded and serves as President of MTM-CNM Family Connection, a rare disease patient advocacy organization serving individuals with complex medical needs including tracheostomies and ventilatory care. She has authored several journal articles and served as Faculty Associate for the Institute for Professionalism and Ethical Practice at Children’s Hospital Boston. Erin has developed curricula and facilitated medical education programs that focus on enhancing medical relational and communication skills, as well as educational modules on children with medical complexity and the nursing interventions involved in their care in the home and community.

This study explores interprofessional, patient, and care partner perspectives on airway safety, highlighting critical knowledge gaps and the need for standardized, patient-centered terminology. Through mixed-methods analysis, it emphasizes the importance of collaboration and shared understanding in reducing risks, improving outcomes, and foster team-based care for patients susceptible to respiratory compromise.
