Dr. Jordana Salma is a Registered Nurse and Associate Professor in the Faculty of Nursing at the University of Alberta. Her research program IREA (Implementing Research for Equity in Aging) focuses on the health and wellbeing of immigrant and refugee older adults. Some areas of current work focused on healthy aging relate to loneliness, chronic disease management, climate change and physical activity. She draws from Feminist, Transnational and Intersectional perspectives to highlight inequities in aging policies and practices. She is especially committed to using co-design and participatory approaches to engage communities in research and self-advocacy.

Presenting at CAB 2025:

This concept analysis defines transnational healthcare as the practice of individuals seeking healthcare from their country of origin while living abroad. Using Walker and Avant’s framework, researchers reviewed literature to outline attributes, case examples, and implications. A clear definition aids in addressing health disparities and promoting interprofessional collaboration for migrant healthcare.
