Moolaweh Soe, a senior at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Molecular and Biomedical Biology and a Bachelor of Arts in English with a focus on Creative Nonfiction, along with minors in Medical Humanities and Chemistry. As a Karen immigrant and first-generation student, she merges her interests in medicine, creative writing, and public health to address health disparities. Her research examines how socioeconomic and cultural factors influence health outcomes, focusing on immigrant women and English language learner (ELL) populations. In her spare time, she enjoys exploring new music, glass painting, and heated yoga.
Presenting at CAB 2025:
This project developed culturally and linguistically tailored diabetes self-management materials in Karen to address healthcare disparities. Through audiovisual content and community collaboration, the materials aimed to improve understanding and engagement. Positive feedback from Karen-speaking patients highlighted better diabetes comprehension, with future implementation planned for broader use and evaluation.
