Shari DeVeney, Ph.D., CCC-SLP, is a professor in the Special Education and Communication Disorders department at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Prior to obtaining her doctorate degree, she spent 10 years as a practicing speech-language pathologist, working mainly in early childhood and preK-12 educational settings. Her primary research focus involves identifying early communication risks associated with speech and language development and advancing evidence-based practices for children with communication delays. As a faculty member, Dr. DeVeney is passionate about providing interprofessional educational experiences for students to develop skills necessary for delivering holistic, coordinated services for future clients/patients and their families.

Presenting at CAB 2025:

This interprofessional dysphagia education event, now in its second year, demonstrates the value of structured, theory-driven collaboration between medical and speech-language pathology students. Grounded in the IPEC competencies, the program provides a model for designing and evaluating effective interprofessional educational experiences that foster balanced engagement and skill-building.
