  • Innovative Approaches to Interprofessional Pedagogy and Education Science
This presentation will share an innovative workplace curriculum for health professionals. This program helps busy clinician-educators develop and apply the Interprofessional Education Collaborative competencies in their roles as providers/preceptors within interprofessional clinical learning environments. Preceptors create powerful influences on their learners via role modeling (Girotto et al, 2019). Considering the scope of this influence, there is minimal existing content created for preceptors to enhance their skills for interprofessional precepting (Doll et al, 2018).Implementation: The WILD Series is a hybrid curriculum intended to advanced interprofessional competencies for preceptors. There are four WILD Series offerings: Communication, Roles and Responsibilities, Teams and Teamwork, and Values and Ethics. Each series consists of five weekly emails, sent directly to registered preceptors, followed by one debriefing session. Weekly emails include 3-5 minute content videos, tangible skills prompts, reflection questions, and resources for further study. Preceptors are encouraged to share the content and skills with colleagues and learners. The synchronous debriefing session involves small groups of preceptors exchanging personal applications of the content.Evaluation plan: Evaluation data was collected via an electronic survey at the completion of each WILD series. The evaluation consisted of questions related to participant demographics (e.g., profession); the feasibility of participation; perceptions regarding the utility and quality of content, emails, debriefing session, achievement of objectives, and overall recommendations regarding the offering.Outcome(s) and significance: As of fall 2024, Seventy-four health professionals participated in one or more sessions in the series. Across the four offerings, the majority of respondents reported their interprofessional competency was improved through the weekly emails and debriefing session (94.3% and 97%, respectively). 100% of participants stated that they would recommend the series to their colleagues. Our reach has expanded beyond Minnesota to include participants from other states and one international participant. These results show the significance and value of workplace education for interprofessional preceptor development.
