Dr. Sara E. Banzhaf is an Associate professor at Creighton University College of Nursing serving in the role as the Track Leader for the Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Track. Teaching is focused on the specialty role courses for the psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner in both the Doctor of Nursing Practice and Post Graduate Certificate programs. Currently practices at an urban community healthcare clinic. Scholarship interests include innovative strategies promoting quality interprofessional psychiatric-mental health practice and education, integration of a reflective practice promoting quality outcomes, and development of Stress First Aid Training programs, serving as the co-principal investigator for the research study: Stress First Aid: Enhancing Professional Adapting Strategies Serves as principal investigator for the grant project: An Interprofessional Approach to Psychiatric-Mental Health Assessment in an Urban Community Clinic and the principal investigator for the grant project: Leveraging an Academic -Service Partnership to Increase Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioners in Nebraska. Serves as the Co-Chair for the APNA Graduate Education Council, Member of the NONPF - PMHNP Competency Revision Committee, member of the International Society of Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing and is an active member of the NE Behavioral Health Education Partners. Achieved a Doctor of Nursing Practice in 2017 and Master of Science in Nursing and Family Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner in 2012.

Presenting at CAB 2025:

This project addresses the critical shortage of accessible psychiatric-mental healthcare through development of a comprehensive interprofessional assessment tool. Created through systematic review, community engagement, and collaborative practice, the tool integrates social care and interprofessional healthcare teams to improve holistic service delivery for vulnerable populations at an urban community healthcare clinic.
