From Revision to Practice: Implementing the Updated IPEC Core Competencies in Interprofessional Education

Since its 2011 release, the IPEC Core Competencies for Interprofessional Collaborative Practice have guided efforts to improve team-based patient care and population health outcomes. In 2023, IPEC released the IPEC Core Competencies: Version 3 to strengthen interprofessional learning, health professions education, and health improvements. These competencies emphasize values and ethics, roles and responsibilities, communication, and teams and teamwork, essential for addressing complex health needs. Competency-based education ensures graduates develop the skills required for real-world practice. Aligning interprofessional education with accreditation standards ensures high-quality, standardized education while fostering interprofessional collaboration. Integrating interprofessional education into health professions programs and curricula prepares future healthcare professionals to work effectively in diverse, collaborative teams, improving patient care and outcomes.Session outline with active learning strategies: 15m: Presentation on background topics
