  • Collaborative Leadership and Shared Responsibility in Interprofessional Teams
The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC-CH) established an Office of Interprofessional Education and Practice (OIPEP) in 2018 along with a position with the title Assistant Provost for IPEP and an IPEP director from each school that would serve as that professions’ champion. Using Kotter’s model for Leading Change, OIPEP undertook a strategic planning process to design and implement a plan for institutionalizing interprofessional education and practice (Zomorodi et al, 2024) that chartered their first six years. By 2024, many of the initial OIPEP goals had been accomplished, along with many lessons learned.

Building off of the HPAC Guidance and IPEC institutional needs assessment, this presentation will offer participants a chance to learn about the strategic planning process, the pivots and lessons learned in the establishment of a new office of IPEP, and the next steps in institutionalizing change. Participants will reflect on their own institutional needs and develop strategies for implementation and sustainability.Session outline with active learning strategies: Overview of previous strategic planning process (10 min): Overview of Kotter's model and first iteration of strategic planning process.
