Jo Ann Coco-Ripp, PhD, LRT, CTRS is chair of the Therapeutic Recreation Department at Winston-Salem State University in North Carolina. She has been a full time educator since 2004. Prior to that career shift she was a full time therapist in Behavioral Health, youth at risk and developmental disability settings for many years. Her focus as a practitioner, educator and researcher has been interdisciplinary. For the last five years she has co-chaired the annual IEP event in the School of Health Sciences involving over 300 students.

Presenting at CAB 2025:

The presentation will discuss the development of the IPR.Global Summer Research Institute, informed by a needs assessment involving practitioners, researchers, educators, administrators, students, and community members with patient or caregiving experiences. Findings from the needs assessment and how they informed curriculum development will be presented.
Development, implementation and evaluation of a 300 student multidisciplinary, multi university event will be shared. This event used a case study and escape room approach. The results showed high level engagement and met most outcomes planned. Improvements and other training suggestions will be offered.
