Dr. Mitzi Scotten received her nursing and medical degrees from the University of Kansas. In clinical practice, she has been a pediatric hospitalist and has served as the Director of the Pediatric Cystic Fibrosis Clinic at the KU Medical Center. She currently practices at the NYIT faculty clinic in Jonesboro. Her pediatric expertise focuses on complex pediatric medical conditions, respiratory diseases and children with ADHD.. Dr. Scotten manages five courses across all four years of medical school and directs the simulation and standardized patient programs at the COM. In January of 2024, she published her first novel-Mark of the Pteranodon.

Inter-professional simulation training is not available at all medical campuses. Role play, while not a substitute for actual IPE, provides pre-clinical students with an early understanding of other healthcare roles, enhancing their knowledge of basic roles within the healthcare team before actual inter-professional experiences.
